With the development of higher education, the nature of colleges and universities has changed accordingly, and the faults of traditional performance appraisal system of teachers in colleges and universities were exposed gradually, which greatly affect their development. Therefore, it is extremely urgent to improve its performance appraisal system. Aimed at evaluating the performance of teachers in colleges and universities wholly, systematically and scientifically, promoting their performance individually and advance the development of colleges and universities strategically, this article analyzes the reasons causing these problems deeply, studies and puts forward with an index system of teachers in colleges and universities based on the theory of professional values.Firstly, the article expounds and summarizes related studies on the performance appraisal of teachers both home and abroad, defines their concept, expounds performance appraisal index system and introduces several performance appraisal methods in common use, which lays theoretical foundation for the following article.Secondly, guided by the theory of performance appraisal, the article analyzes the current performance appraisal situation of teachers in colleges and universities both home and abroad, points out there are various problems on the system, index and methods. The article also deeply analyzes the reasons causing those problems and proposes to improve the performance appraisal system urgently.The following part is the main content of this article. Based on the theory of professional values for teachers in colleges and universities, the article constructs the performance appraisal system and confirms the standards and main body of performance appraisal. Meanwhile, great attention has been attached to the steps in using AHP and its application in determining the weight of the index. By using hierarchical fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and the percentage of conversion, the article implements date processing of the quantitative and qualitative indexes, thus arriving at the conclusion of the comprehensive appraisal result of the teachers in colleges and universities.Finally, the last part of the article expounds the implementation of the index system, the feedback of the results as well as its application.
