Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT)was introduced to China at the turn of the century.It has been verified that TBLT plays an important part in arousing students'interest,developing their capabilities and enhancing their comprehensive qualities.However,in China,TBLT, which is still in the experimental stage,has not been successfully practiced in the classroom.Although reading comprehension in China has been placed in a dominant position,yet no remarkable success has been achieved,especially in middle school English teaching and learning.As English teachers,we should take a positive attitude towards TBLT and make great efforts to improve English language teaching and learning and to enhance its efficiency by flexibly adopting the task-based approach.This thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to reading, mainly stating the relevant theories,the definition of reading, and the factors which have effects on the students'reading comprehension;the roles that the teacher plays in the teaching processes and the ways dealing with the problem . Chapter 2 analyses the TBLT search in China and oversea. Chapter 3 is a brief introduction of TBLT,mainly stating the relevant theories,the definition of a task and TBLT;the features of a task;the components of a task;the design principles of a task and the types of tasks and etc. Chapter 4 is the key section of the thesis,which shows the practice of TBLTin reading teaching in detail. Chapter 5 is the experiment, it includes the accomplishment and experience of the teachers and the students and the results of the experiment of which has been carried out for half a year. Chapter 6 is the end of the thesis.As TBLT is still in its beginning stage in China,it is necessary to make more experiments and conduct more researches on it.With its wide spread and application of language teaching in China,new task-based methods will be created,which will satisfy the various needs of language teaching at different levels.The future of the application of TBLT is rosy and encouraging,hence its profound implication.
