| Reading is an important means for people to obtain information,and it helps people learn knowledge,broaden their horizons,and enhance their thinking ability.But from the aspect of learning,reading is an individual behavior,and reading comprehension process is an individual inner activity.Therefore,the teaching of reading has become a challenge in language teaching.How to help students improve their reading grades and abilities through effective teaching methods becomes the teaching problem for middle school English teachers.At present,the difficulties faced by middle school English teachers are that students have low interest and low grades in English reading.Teachers’ teaching methods were rigid,and transitional teaching and inculcation was not conducive to mobilize students’ reading interests and reading habits.It is difficult to fundamentally promote students’ reading performance and ability.TBLT is a kind of task-based language teaching method based on tasks,which the teaching goal is to finish the task.It took the classroom communication activity as the main organization form,the students as the center of the reading task activity,and it had conducted meaning consultation to promote language acquisition.It emphasized on “learn by doing and learn by using”,and had paid attention to students’ participation in the process of finishing tasks.Students acquired knowledge and experience in communicative activities.Furthermore,it had advocated exploring and finding in learning.Applying the task-based teaching method to middle school English reading teaching,helps students to combine language learning and language application organically.Based on related theories of the task-based teaching method and reading theories,this thesis aimed to explore the following two questions:1.How to apply the task-based teaching method in middle school English reading class?2.What are the teaching effects of applying the task-based teaching method in middle school English reading class?The author chose 111 students from two classes in Grade Two of B Junior Middle School in C City as objects of this study.The author had used SPSS software to analyze reading scores and reading interest questionnaire of the two classes firstly,and then the author had found that there were not significant differences between the two classes on reading grades or reading interest.So the two classes could be taken as the study subjects,which one of the classes was selected randomly as the experimental class,the other class as the control class.Then the author designed the teaching model and procedure of applying the task-based teaching method in the middle school English reading class.The author had conducted a junior middle school English reading teaching experiment based on task-based teaching method in the experimental class for 20 weeks,and maintained the traditional teaching methods on English reading in the control class.After the teaching experiment,the author had done a post-test for English reading grades and English reading interest of the two classes,and then used SPSS software to analyze the data of pre-test and post-test.This study had the following findings:1.Constructing and practicing the mode and procedure of applying the task-based teaching method in the middle school English reading class;2.Achieving good teaching effect due to applying task-based teaching method in the middle school English reading class.(1)Through analyzing the result of post-test,it found that the English reading grades of the experimental class was significantly better than the control class.Compared with the previous English reading performance,the current English reading grades of the experimental class has been improved obviously;(2)The reading interests of students in the experimental class in post-test is obviously better than the control class.Compared with the previous result,the English reading interest of the experimental class has been improved significantly.While there was no significant differences between the English reading grades and the English reading interest of the control class in the pre-test and post-test scores.At the same time,the interview results has showed that the application of task-based teaching method in the course of English reading helps to change the situation of conveying too much knowledge but less language practice.It helped to change students’ mechanical learning styles,and it also helped to stimulate students’ learning interest and motivation to achieve their personalized learning ability and autonomous learning ability.This study tested the effectiveness of TBLT in English reading teaching of middle school to a certain extent,but due to the subjective and objective conditions,it also had some limitations.Teachers should have a deeper research in using task-based teaching method,and fully explore the teaching effect and the application value of TBLT to help the students arouse their learning interest,cultivate their reading habit,optimize their learning method,develop their comprehensive quality and ability in the future middle school English reading teaching. |
