Teaching is a combination of many interrelated works, sufficient preparations are essential and must be carried out before performing a lecture, these preparations include understanding syllabus, reading teaching materials, learning the students and determining teaching plans, etc. The most important work is to read, understand, master and interpret the implications of the syllabus, textbook and teaching materials. The proper interpretation of teaching materials is pre-conditional and crucial factors to achieve teaching objectives efficiently and effectively.Base on modern teaching methods and course syllabus, this paper attempts to discuss the different interpretation methods and skills, by taking politics subject of senior high school stage as an example, and quoting relevant educational psychology theories. This paper is made up of four sections.The first section is the overview of interpretation methods. Start with the definition of teaching materials, this section describes its features and functions, which determine the importance and necessity of the study of interpretation methods. And some methods for other liberal subjects are also introduced.The second section analyses the current methods adopted for new politics textbook of senior high School. These methods have their own advantages, but their common weakness should be identified and require enough attentions. This section figures out some deep-rooted reasons which caused these weaknesses.The third section evaluates the application and consideration of interpretation methods of politics textbook of senior high school. This section discusses the general principles which should be considered when choosing interpretation methods. Based on these principles and the features of textbook, this paper introduces 3 different interpretation methods - knowledge analysis method, functional analysis method and structure analysis method, their advantages, disadvantages and applicability, and corresponding requirements for teachers to apply them.The last section is to reflect the application of interpretation methods. This paper is an exploratory study more than a qualitative one, which raises some concerns for all politics teachers. This section attempts to describe the evaluation, usage, reflection of different methods.
