This paper studies the history and present situations of Chinese teaching in China, discusses the problems existing in Chinese teaching of middle school, trying to give a reasonable answer and supplies tactics to deal with them.With the comprehensive analysis of the standard curriculum and practical teaching facts of mother tongue subject in Britain, France and Germany etc, there comes a conclusion: with practice in many years, European countries have formed a riper theory. They value the role of native language works in native language teaching. They have promoted students to read classic works, with the guarantee of the lowest limit of quantity and quality. On the contrary, as for the native language teaching in China, there are many reasons for the serious situation of Chinese teaching of middle school. But most importantly, it is the College Entrance Examination system that deprive students' reading time. During the course of Chinese learning, students seldom have special time to read works of language except native classic ones. What's worse, the disorder of teaching materials worsens the problem. In many self-edited teaching materials, the percentage of the native classics is decreased greatly. Gradually, Chinese classic works disappeared in Chinese classes, which leads to a worse situation of the loss of tradition and the fault of culture.This paper holds that The New Course Standard of Senior Chinese of Full-time Regular High School states the laws of Chinese teaching scientifically, for the reason that it gives concrete instructions to Chinese teaching from the formulation of objectives to the arrangement of courses, and that the suggestions are full of profound insight and practical. However, under the pressure of the college entrance examination, education administration departments of different areas unnoticed the gist of the course standard of Chinese. As a result, with a terminal aim of achieving a good performance in college entrance examination, all Chinese teaching activities have to be based on the college entrance examination and are arranged around teaching materials.In order to change this situation, it's a must to emphasize the important role of the classic works, to strengthen the teaching of classic works, to guarantee the periods and quality of elective courses of classic works, and to adjust to the pattern of the college entrance examination.As for Chinese teaching of middle school, maybe it's not the best solution to the problems, but it is probably a practical tactic to be carried out in time at present.
