Since the new era, the growing social competition brings people more pressure in modern society. Under this situation, the educational orientation of the countries around the world has all turned to cultivate people's viability based on the people oriented concept. Children are regarded as the"future"and"flower"of our motherland. However, they are also called to be"the flowers in greenhouse", Especially there exist some problems on survival to those who are the only child in cities, which have a bad influence on their future development. However, apparently this situation has not drawn enough attention of parents and society, and it seems especially urgent and important to strengthen viability of students.The improvement of students'viability are not about education, but also relate to society, which should be solved by the unity of families, schools and especially society. The viability education relates to not only body and skill, but also psychology, therefore, it is important to know about the present situation of viability education and the means to improve students'viability. Based on the project of"children's learning swimming"in Xuhui District, Shanghai, where the students of grade four who learn to swim as objectives, the author produces this paper with scientific attitudes by consulting a lot of references, interviewing some professors, conducting surveys, experiencing practical teaching and doing some statistics according to the principles in pedagogy, statistics and psychology. This paper mainly studies the definition and the understanding of abilities and its basis of implementation as well as the present studies both at home and abroad. This paper analyzes the influences of"children's learning swimming"on the students survival abilities from seven aspects such as the physique, willpower, independence of life, confidence, the spirit of teamwork, the communicative abilities and skills of swim. By making questionnaires about the present situation of abilities of students in grade four in Xuhui district, Shanghai, the author analyzes the influences of swimming classes on the abilities of students through the comparison between the experimental group and matched group in swimming classes for a term.According to the investigation about the comparison of experimental group and the matched group, the physical quality, swimming skills and the ability to save themselves of students have improved. Their self-supporting ability and learning interest as well as the activeness to join collective activities have promoted. Besides, they are more confident and aware of teamwork with stronger willpower and better characters. The writer hopes that this study can help people know more about the president situation of students'viability and thus change people's attitudes towards it, and then draw the whole society's attention to it. Therefore, the concept of students towards viability could be changed, their living awareness could be strengthened, and their viability could improve. In this way, the students can study and grow up happily and swimming classes could be one important means for schools to develop the education of abilities, which will contribute a lot to education for all-around development in schools.
