With the rapid development of information technology, the extensive use of Internet and multimedia has changed the way of teaching and learning, which is becoming more and more flexible. Distance education, a new type of education, came into being, rightly based on the advancement of computer technology, multimedia technology and network communication technology. However, the traditional teaching mode employed in distance education, especially in TVU, has been unable to meet the teaching demands. The problems encountered not only restrict the improvement of distance education, but also prohibit the development of it. Consequently, a new teaching mode is supposed to be found out to deal with the current problems.In the thesis, the significance of the teaching mode reform under present conditions, the current research state of distance education home and abroad as well as the existing problems in it have been analyzed. According to the characteristics of distance education and the theoretical basis of the construction of the teaching model, the author has systematically explained the current teaching mode of distance education, and furthermore, has proposed a general idea of the teaching mode reform, with emphasis on the basic contents and applications of the new teaching mode derived from practice, which is called the"Two studies and Two mores".The "Two studies and two mores" teaching mode follows the main line of students'individual self-learning, with the improvement of teaching quality as its nucleus and teaching reform as its impetus. As for the relationship between teaching and learning, there is an obvious shift of the teaching focus from teaching to students'self-learning, emphasizing the new relationship of being student-centered and teacher-led. Regarding the teaching objective, it has been transferred from traditional pure knowledge instruction to the development of knowledge, ability and quality. Accordingly, when it comes to the teaching method, it has changed from the traditional face-to-face instruction to the new kind of comprehensive use of multi-media, which helps not only to achieve interactive teaching and learning of distance education, but also promote the sustainable healthy development of the teaching mode reform.The "Two studies and two mores" teaching mode is derived from the open teaching practice and, in turn, it works to guide the new teaching mode. Through practical exploration and research, the author finds that the basic framework of teaching mode mainly consists of four modules, namely, teacher-led learning, students'self-learning, participation in various activities and the assistance of multi-media. Of the four major modules, teacher-led learning works as a prerequisite of teaching modes, students'self-learning as a basis, multiple forms of teaching activities as the key and multi-media teaching resource as the security of it.In the teacher-guided learning module, teachers function as the main body of it, guiding the learning process and inspiring the thinking way of learning. This module consists of three kinds of guided learning methods, including school guidance, face-to-face counseling, and on-line guidance, in which school guidance works as the basis, face-to-face counseling as the key, and the on-line guidance as the keystone. Only by the organic combinations of the three methods, can the work of guided learning goes on smoothly. When it comes to the self-learning module, the realization of self- learning must be dependent on three factors, the establishment of teacher-guided learning, participation in various activities and the assistance of multi-media, in which the computer network plays an important role in every aspect of self-learning. Then comes the third type, the module with various activities, in which wide range of activities act as the joining point of traditional and modern educational theories, and also an important manifestation of guidance work in teaching activities. This module is realized by means of organized group activities, meanwhile students are allowed to make their own choices according to the real situations. Thus, it reflects in particular the developments of students'practical abilities and improvements of their overall qualities. The fourth also the last type of module refers to the Multi-media module. Just as the name implies, projectors, electronic whiteboards, audio equipment, central control systems, computer and other digital teaching equipment are employed, cooperated with the use of educational software (Multimedia Electronic Classroom System). Through the advantages of owning graphs, texts, sounds, and even movable images, it provides students with the most ideal teaching and learning environment.Through adopting the new teaching mode in the author's school, it has proved that the reform of teaching mode is effective enough to achieve the organic link between teaching and learning, improve teaching quality and cultivate the ability to acquire knowledge and pursue lifelong learning. The new teaching mode is of great theoretical and practical significance in Distance Education of TVU.
