Social Capital Of Urban Community And Its Measurement

With the rapid development of economy and urbanization, the building of grassroots organizations has become a top priority of social development, while the problems in the community construction are receiving much attention. Social capital theory provides a meaningful analytical framework for the research of urban community. Urban community social capital is derived from the interactions between the individuals and organizations inside the social communities. It's the vital measure of community governance and construction, and can reflect the level of community development appropriately.Community social capital is a kind of community network, historical culture, value ideology and behavior norm, which is generated from the community agencies' interaction based on social trust and reciprocity. Urban community social capital is divided into physical and abstract. The physical dimension consists of community participation, community relations, community-based organizations inside and community environment outside, while the abstract dimension consists of community norms, community identity, customs, cultural values and so on.We take these methods to make empirical screening of measure indicators based on the improvement the structure of community social capital in order:focus group discussions, descriptive statistical analysis, membership analysis identification of force analysis and P-P diagram test. We get 3 first-level indicators,8 second-level indicators and 17 third-level indicators as a result. After the scientific analysis, the viewpoint of this paper is that it is important to take full account of the impact of community cultural, historical, political, and economic based on the specific conditions in our country in order to breed urban communities social capital. This paper proposes breeding urban community social capital from three aspects: community trust, community norms and community networks. It is suggested to improve public policy, enhance community social capital stock, and optimize the urban community construction in our country.This thesis reviewing the past paper defines the implication of social capital in urban communities, which provides a new approach in researching related fields. So as to improve data scientific nature and effectiveness, we collect information in 11 communities in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province of various types by using more than 500 copies of effective questionnaires. We conducted empirical assessment by using grade of membership analysis, correlation analysis, identification analysis, etc. Most of indexes are processed by experts in group discussions and consulting interviews on the basis of the quantitative analysis. The results of the study create a significantly effective and meaningful system in measuring social capital in urban communities, which could be crucial from a public policy perspective.
