With constructing the harmonious society, the related problems have been debated. In the current social, disharmonious factor is income distribution gap. If the problem of income distribution cannot receive timely, the cumulative consequences will cause serious impact on the whole social harmony and stability. Most scholars believe that the income gap is too much caused by social injustice. Higher education equity is an important part of social fairness, is the important tool to realize social justice, and is one of the important ways to promote harmonious society. Therefore, how to deal with the relationship of higher education equity and income distribution have become the key issues of constructing the harmonious society. In this background, the paper focuses the empirical research on the relationship of higher education equity and income distribution.The current domestic researches merely based on qualitative research, in-depth quantitative studies are little, qualitative and quantitative analyses of empirical studies are much rarer. This paper breakthrough previous studies, using the short-term and long-term empirical method, and deepen the research of the relation of higher education equity and income distribution.Firstly, starting from the meaning of the harmonious society and the characteristic, this paper makes a general review of the higher education equity, income distribution equity and the related theory respectively. Then it analyzes higher education equity starting from three aspects accepting opportunity, process and result, while analyzes the present and change trend of income gap starting from three aspects accepting urban and rural,area and overall effect. Then it is the empirical test which is analyzed from two aspects. First, it analyzes the correlation of the regional higher education equity and income distribution selecting one year data from a short horizontal. Second it selects 1981-2007 time series data, and analyzes the influence of higher education equity on income distribution from Long vertical longitudinal, whether the effect has long-term co integration relation and Granger causality between them. Results: average higher education years and income Geordie coefficient have co-integration relationship, and higher education equity is the Granger origin of income distribution equity. Finally, the paper is from the harmonious vision, propose eight countermeasures on promoting higher education equity and improving income distribute according to the empirical results.
