Abstract/Summary:
"Decision of the State Council on Reform and Development of Elementary Education" was officially launched. It marked a new round of reform on basic education in our country. The new curriculum standards explains the position and characteristics of literacy education, moreover, the proportion of literacy works raised obviously, i.e., literacy education has been listed on agenda, which will bring Chinese teaching in 21st century into a phase. Students usually experience emotional development and mental cultivation in senior high school. Students usually experience emotional development and mental cultivation in senior high school. Hence, it is a best choice to provide them literacy education, which can be thought as an important method to achieve the goal required by Chinese teaching of senior high school.Literacy education, falling down to the category of course form, composes an vital part of Chinese teaching in senior high school. It is a kind of educational method, in order to develop and promote students'literacy cultivation and emotional ability, using existing Chinese textbooks for senior high schools to provide students with aesthetic education, cultural education and language education.This thesis employs document analysis, historical analysis and case studies as research methods. On the basis of explaining the historical development and value of literacy education in Chinese teaching, the author makes the textbooks as a key point to realize literacy education for senior high school students. The author takes the literacy materials in Chinese textbooks (volume1 to volume 5, hereinafter referred to as Jiangsu Edition) for senior high school published by Jiangsu Education Press in 2005 as corpus and studies the literacy elements herein. The author will combine cases to analyze the role of textbooks in literacy education in Chinese teaching from a dynamic perspective. After literacy education was carried on, it experienced several phases: independence during 1909 to 1919, development during 1919 to 1949, which containing a short time of separating literacy from Chinese teaching, downturn period, decades of silence and recovery periods in the beginning of this century. It takes about one hundred years and can be divided into three stages: 1904-1919, 1919-1949, 1949-now. The author will explain how literacy education develops and how it throws influence on Chinese teaching. Furthermore, the author believes that Chinese teaching can be used as a tool to derive nutrients from traditional culture, to cultivate humanities and to obtain cultural identity. As the basic iconic culture, Chinese textbooks play a more important role than other textbooks. They are not also a vital and direct media for students to learn mother language, but also a conveyor to realize literacy education and a tool for Chinese teaching to transmit native culture.The thesis probes the value of literacy education and analyzes the texts in Jiangsu Edition from the angels of life, emotion and nation. After explaining the rich native culture, national spirit, kinship, love and friendship showed by the texts, the author extracts useful materials for literacy education. Finally, the author suggests that interacting, experiential and exploratory classes built to study the development and using of textbooks to realize literacy education. By using Jiangsu Edition as corpus and studying the relevant problems in literacy education for senior high school students, the author hopes this will provide educators a new view to appreciate life, emotion and spirit, provide a new room to carry literacy on and provide a new way to realize its function and goal.
