With the promotion of the new curriculum, its new concept has attracted all teachers'attention. The new curriculum emphasizes the cultivation of mathematical ability of students, while exercise lesson, one of the important lessons, has its unique advantages in this aspect. In exercise teaching, teachers comment through the organization of exercises, guide the students in problem solving to help students to consolidate, deepen the basic knowledge and basic skills. When students expose problems in learning, guide students to sort out their knowledge structure, making their knowledge system continuously improve, meanwhile making their thinking skills develop, so as to achieve the purpose of developing students'mathematical ability in all aspects.In this paper, through some case study on some problems in traditional exercises teaching, such as: exercise lessons have not attracted sufficient attention of some teachers; exercise lessons lack scientific and high-level design; the teaching methods of such class are single, old-fashioned, and so on. Because of the existence of these problems, this paper points out exercise lessons do not fully play its due role, but make burdens on students'learning, teaching and thus reduce the efficiency of teaching. The author of this paper, based on a variety of instructional theory and practical teaching needs, makes up the questionnaire on the actual level of high school students in exercise lessons in order to know the actual situation. Following that, the author records, analyzes with experts, and other colleagues, and does students interview so as to provide scientific, efficient and humane exercise lessons. Therefore merit teaching can be achieved. The author selects two classes for the experiment which lasts nearly half a year. By the experiment, the author compiles a number of outstanding cases on exercises lessons. Practice shows that merit teaching combines the advantages of traditional teaching with the concept of the new curriculum. Thus it motivates students'interest in mathematics that will benefit them for life long. Also cooperation and exchange between teachers and students become effective, making learning more efficient.
