In recent years, the quality of teaching in universities obtains more attentions. Faculty Development in higher education revolutions becomes hot problems in many stations. The Teaching Assistant has a very important role in American Higher education .It can't be ignored. As well as it improves a work experience for graduates to as a teacher at higher school.The motion of the American University Teaching Assistant System is from the station attaches importance to the instruction. The government and university in order to increase the instructional quality , improves so many teaching assistant training methods .Today , for the purpose of ensure the future American university's teaching quality , the teaching assistant system's target is"the preparing future faculty". This gets forward the teaching assistant system.This thesis is divides into six part, we will introduce the American University Teaching Assistant System form two sections: system of management and system of training. Four impetus of development which actuate teaching assistant system is graduate students'need for financial aid, popularization of higher education, and so on. Analysis it's characteristics, clarify it's function. The thesis includes:The introductory portion of thesis contains the purpose, the significance, the current situation, the methods of the research are given and important conceptChapter one is"The history of American University Teaching Assistant System". It introduces the development of American University Teaching Assistant System on the order of time , and graduate students'need for financial aid, popularization of higher education the doctoral education and public attentions on the instruction of American University for their own development and changes of the factors for analysis .Chapter two is"system of management of American University Teaching Assistant System". In this chapter, we will analysis American universities how to manage and assess the system through the selection, office time, wage, responsibilities, assessment and so on.Chapter three is"system of training of American University Teaching Assistant System". It focus on the training methods of the teaching assistant system in American university. The implementation of the training methods includes the training before semesters, mentor, teaching assistant meetings and activities, teaching assistant courses and programs.Chapter four is"case study of American University Teaching Assistant System". This section uses the Iowa State University and Stanford University as cases. I study on Iowa State University about ITA, use of case on Stanford University from the system implementation, management and training methods.Chapter five is"characteristics and functions of American University Teaching Assistant System".In this part, we will analyze the characteristics of teaching assistant in American university and its functions. Through an analysis of previous four chapters, the Chapter five sums up the characteristics of teaching assistant system in universities.
