Science and technology are the main forces for promoting social development, and they cannot make progress without talent, the training of whom cannot do without education. At present, there are factors that seriously restrict the development of the innovative talents in our country. So the contradiction between the backward education system and the need for talents needs to be solved. In order to solve the contradiction, new reform in basic education starts entirely. The new curriculum reform demonstrates a totally new education thought. When it comes to chemistry education, it is not simply the increase or the decrease of the education contents, but is the systematic project on reform in education notion,curriculum institution,curriculum content, curriculum evaluation and curriculum management. As the carriers of the new curriculum, teachers'qualities are the key factors to the success of the curriculum reform. Therefore it is significant to pay close attention to teachers'professional qualities. Or we can say it is the basic assurance of quality education. Chemistry is an important subject in basic education. In order to adapt the demands of the new century, chemistry teachers should possess better qualities than before. So it is significant to research what kind of professional qualities the chemistry teacher should possess in new curriculum reform.Based on reading large quantities of documents and thinking about what qualities senior high school chemistry teacher should possess, the author makes a survey on the professional qualities of chemistry teacher in senior high school in Cangnan from the following four aspects: professional feelings, professional knowledge, professional skills and professional development. Based on the survey results, the author analyzes the professional quality differences between the teachers of urban and rural areas so as to put forward the suggestions. The writer hopes the article can promote teachers to get used to the new curriculum reform rapidly. And the writer also hopes the article can become the reference to the teachers who are eager to make a further research.
