Abstract/Summary:
At the early 21st century, Basic education in China has started a new round of curriculum reform. With the trial and promotion of new curriculum standards, China's primary and secondary school courses have changed profoundly in some aspects which include educational philosophy, educational objectives, instructional content, instructional mode and teaching methods. One of the major challenges of curriculum reform is "teacher professionalism"; obviously, teacher professional development is an important way to achieve teacher professionalism.So teacher professional development has become the focus of all educational scholars. Looking at the results of existing researches on teacher professional development home and abroad, they are mainly concentrated on the theoretical level. These theories include the concept of teacher professional development, the phases of teacher professional development, the structural framework for teacher professional development, teacher professional development models and methods. Few of these studies mentioned the purpose of teacher professional development, but I do not think this is a problem can be avoided. My point is the significance of teacher professional development for teachers, especially primary and secondary school teachers lies in improving teachers' performance in practice. This paper studies professional development of teachers from the perspective of performance technology, emphasizing professional development of teachers should aim to improve teachers' performance.In this study I used literature review, questionnaires, interviews and other research methods. Firstly, I summarized the theories about teachers' professional development and performance technology. On this basis, I proposed the concepts of teacher performance. Then I designed a questionnaire survey to investigate the present situation of professional development of primary and secondary school teachers. Finally, I tried to find solutions for the problems which reflected by the survey. And these solutions focus on improving teachers' performance through teacher's teaching practice.
