From Courtyard To Community

Community plays an important role of tie in connecting individual with others, families with society. It is the epitome of society as well as the starting point of studying the whole society. In the first half of 20th century, the urban community developed mainly in the way of "the unit running the society" in which mode the units replaced the government to take the responsibility which should be taken by community. After reformation and opening, the unit-system was increasingly unable to meet the residents' diverse demands and began to transform to socialized community system. In this transformation process, "outdated theory", "vanishing theory", "reconstruction theory" and many other different voices appeared to unit community. However, the social capital theory, which is a new theory paradigm developed recent years, has a special explanation angle in investigating interpersonal relation models, social structure and regional society development, as a result of which, the unit community in a special status became the best choice of social formation to examine and develop the theory. According to the background that the unit community is widespread while its development are suffering great plight, author selects a military courtyard that is in the transformation process and by means of field study, analyses the changes of location, space planning and management approach caused by removal in the angle of social capital theory. The study investigates several aspects those are internal economy of community residents, education along with marriage and community neighborhood relationship, the overall residents'participation and environment management, and the relation between community residents and units. On that basis, this text starts with two basic assumptions of social capital of community:1. Social capital has different levels. The individual social capital takes family as its carrier which is with privacy and self-regarding tendency while the social capital of community takes public space as its carrier which has the characteristic of public goods, two of which present a game situation to a certain extent.2. The social capital of unit community in transformation is diffluent whose direction is decided by construction situation of community and community members'dependency on unit. Around these two basic assumption, the following research idea is formed:I the reviews and comments about the theory of community, unit system and social capital.â…¡the definition of unit community and social capital of community.â…¢brief introduction of individual unit community. IV the current situation of social capital of unit community and its comparison to that of courtyard period.â…¤investigating and analyzing the origin of the situation of social capital of community. Through the empirical research and cause analysis on the transition during the transformation gradually from courtyard to community in the above five parts, this thesis tries to verify what function the past community research and social capital perform in the community development from the standpoint of theory, and states the developmental predicament what the unit community faces in modern society especially in the transformation in our country and attempts to feasible way in transformation and governance of unit community under the instruction of social capital theory.
