| Richard C·Levin was inaugurated as the 22th President of Yale University in 1990s, during which time the higher education was undergoing frequent reforms and was being fast internationalized, meanwhile the function of universities was widely expanded. Yale University experienced great changes under the guide of Richard C·Levin, during his tenure of office. It was he who brought Yale University into the new millenary successfully. My thesis attempts to explore Richard C·Levin's thought of higher education in order to attribute some inspiration and example for constructing top-ranking universities in China.Four parts are contained in this thesis.Part I mainly introduces the background of Richard C·Levin's thought and gives information about himself, including the 1990s, a time when frequent reforms happening, when the pace of internalizing accelerating and the function of education expanding. Finally I will give some comments on Richard's achievements during his tenure.Part II is the main body of the thesis, which gives detailed analysis of his education thought by recalling his practices, his thought on undergraduate education, leadership education included. Another key point is his ideas about how the universities serve the society.Part III is a conclusion, dissertate the characteristics of Richard's higher education thought. Openness and the prescience are two of them.Part IV tries to explore the inspiration Richard C·Levin could give us to our education career, and the possibility of using his thought for reference, especially to those fields of undergraduate education, leadership education and humanism education. |
