The Plight Of China's Private Higher Education Research And Reform Ideas

Civilian-run higher education is an important component part of our socialist higher education cause. It plays a great role in deepening the reform of the system of running schools, and in the course of realizing mass higher education in China. At present, the expansion of civilian-run higher education is out of control, and it has a great number of problems and difficulties. For this reason, now its healthy and sustainable development is in danger. Civilian-run higher education plight lies in many aspects. The first and second part of this thesis, based on the present situation and the value of civilian-run higher education in our nation, analyze the actual problems confronting civilian-run higher education: the influence from the internationalization of western higher education market; the impact from~ the dominant public higher education; the negative effect from the unsound laws and policies, and weak governmental regulation; lack of educational investment; unstable teachers; inadequate facilities; backward educational concepts; simplified majors; high tuition, which is beyond the means of the ordinary families. In the third part of this paper, based on the plight of civilian-run higher education, the author makes an analysis of the main aspects which are related to the survival and development of civilian-run higher education. To promote the healthy and sustainable development of civilian-run higher education, from the perspective of theorization, innovation, pertinence and maneuverability, the author puts forward some constructive suggestions and rational thoughts concerning the reform of civilian-run higher education: perfecting the legal system of running civilian-run higher educatjon; improving the governmental regulation; reforming the backward educational concepts; emphasizing the quality and characteristics of civilian-run higher education; bettering teaching facilities; enhancing the economic strength of civilian-run higher education by way of combination and internationalization; sticking to proper enrollment and employment guidance; establishing a scientific and rational standard of tuition; strengthening the construction of teaching personnel.
