Multi-dimensional assessments aim at an objective, effective and just assessment on student's achievement through various methods rather than just by test papers. It involves collecting growing information of student's development, providing alternatives for student's development goals. Meanwhile, it enables the teacher to teach their students accordingly to develop their personality. While deepening its educational reforms, China is putting increasing emphasis on multi-dimensional assessments.In America, the National Science and Education Standards demands not only the open assessment for student's achievement but also some routine records of students classroom behavior. Students are supposed to do surveys, written reports, homework etc.; Enrolment for famous universities in America is based on their academic achievements, a composition, a reference letter and an interview.From 2004 on, multi-dimensional assessments starts spreading in China. We have practiced oral English examination, science experiment , special taste for art. What's more, the assessments also include morality, innovative and practical ability. As a result, it motivates the students to go on studying.Our project took 200 students as subjects from class 9,10,11,and 13, grade 1 in No 6 high school in Changchun. In sept.,2008, we carried out the multi-dimensional assessments fin experimental classes through talking, observing naturally to assess their knowledge, skills, comprehensive ability, and thinking. In contrast with the natural class, we found that the students in the experimental class improved their learning habit, built up their confidence and got to learn autonomously. The feedback of the multi-dimensional assessment helps realized student's potential.
