A Study Of The Characteristics And Formation Laws Of Contemporary College Students' Value Orientation

University period is an important and critical stage for university students to develop in their lives, during which values shape. To explore the formation, development, characteristics and laws of students'outlook on life and values will help researchers to constitute targeting education and guidance in all levels and aspects, help college students to establish a correct outlook on life and values and promote their comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physique and art.This paper takes Changchun University as an example by applying literature and research studies, comparative analysis and other methods, through the questionnaires and interviews during the teaching process of several years, aims to describe the status of contemporary college students'values, and its characteristics; and summarize the general laws of contemporary college students'values in formation and development at the university level; and analyzes the main reasons and impacts of the formation of values in the contemporary college students. At the end, it puts forward the initiatives to guide contemporary college students to cultivate correct values.Through the study of literature, this paper focuses on the value orientation in the contemporary college students and point out that the mainstream of the contemporary values on life among university students is positive, healthy, progressive, but trends also display the rising negative factors; on understanding and dealing with the relationship between individuals and others, theoretical knowledge divorced from the practical choice, which reflected in answering the question in theories and principles correctly, or more often making the right choice, but in practical problems their personal interests is surpassing the greater priority; on understanding and handling the relationship between personal interests and social interests, a growing number of university students regard their own personal interests and personal values over the others; on understanding and dealing with the relationship between personal interests and natural resources, eco-awareness is presented in high level, while the eco-consciousness in lower moral, even serious deficiencies in the moral ecology exist in some individuals; on the standards of integrity, there is not high evaluation of integrity and moral recognition to the groups, while their individual evaluation of integrity and moral recognition is quite high, the lack of morality to public life is also quite common; the law-abiding awareness and ability to act according to the law did not form into the universal respect of legal justice and faith, not to mention into a stable rule of law within the personality.Through research this thesis draws a conclusion about the characteristics of contemporary college students'value orientation (Taking Changchun University as an Example): they focus on self-development in order to be"self-centered"; they concerned more about interests of their own than that of the society; with vague idea of ethical standards, they have the basic features of a clear and strong utilitarian orientation, environmental awareness, and legal awareness. Contemporary college students'self-evaluation is inconsistent with the social assessment, and the high self-evaluation is the result from the lack of social performance. Facing the complicated interpersonal and social relations, contemporary college students have several obvious flaws: lacking the basic position and attitudes of the value; needing the basic standard of ethical or legal issues; requiring the ability of independent judgments or handling all kinds of contradictions, conflicts and relations.By comparing the study of the laws of the formation of the contemporary college students'value orientation, this thesis state that: in middle school, they have formed the value orientation and relationships with others. In the college, there is no significant change, and the mainstream is desirable. The formation of personal life values changed gradually from lofty ideals to cost-effective reality. The formation of the values of social relationships focused on personal interests. The formation of the natural values showed a gradual reduction of environment-protect knowledge and a gradual increasing of incorrect idea of consumption pattern. The formation of ethical conduct standards of behavior showed gradual declining faith. The formation of legal acts presented the lacking of law-abiding awareness and ability to handle issues according to the law.This thesis suggests the following three reasons to the formation of the value orientation of the contemporary university students. Firstly, with the growing competition between mainstream and non-mainstream of the society, the formation and development of the value orientation of contemporary college students are influenced. Secondly, the differences between constrained environment and relatively unconstrained environment are clear towards the formation and development of the value orientation of contemporary college students whether are into a positive orientation. Lastly, the discordance between knowledge and moral education, inappropriate educational methods and inconsequence curriculum lead to"the inappropriate"of the students.Finally, how to establish the correct value orientation in contemporary college students has also been analyzed at length in this thesis. College education is not only the final stage, the closing stage of university education, but also a critical stage for students to establish values, which is very important. Since the formation of values is an extremely complex and long process, relying solely on one course, courses, or even courses of a major cannot contribute to the formation and transformation of college students. Therefore, to guide college students to establish the correct values demands that we should take measures to interchange education and guidance in order to play a multiplier of the desired effect, which is based on construction of university culture, people's spiritual lives, meaning of life in higher and wider level. It is very essential to set up measures to guide contemporary college students to establish the correct values under the guidance of how to foster university culture, promote spiritual life, and implement education, which are also the countermeasures and initiatives this thesis proposed to establish correct value orientation in contemporary college students.
