The New Curriculum Syllabus for English Language Teaching, published in 2001, advocates the use of task-based approach. Following it, the task-based approach is being widely applied in practical English teaching. It has been verified that TBLT has great significance in changing the current English teaching situation in our country, and plays an important part in arousing students'interest, developing their capabilities and enhancing their comprehensive competence.Reading is a receptive language process and is often the chief goal of language learners. So the efficiency of English reading teaching, has close relation with our teaching aims. This thesis introduces the present research of TBLT at home and abroad, discusses the models of TBLT, and describes the process of putting it into junior high school English reading teaching class.The author will attempt to provide that task-based English reading teaching can enhance greatly the learners'reading interest and improve their reading comprehensive and communicative competence powerfully. And the author also designed task-based teaching plan, though the design and completion of the tasks, the students'interest is aroused, thus effective teaching practice is achieved. The process of the experiment proves that the TBLT is suitable for junior high school reading teaching. And the questionnaire shows that most of the students think that the activities of finishing the tasks make the reading process much more interesting and easier than before.In the end of the thesis, the author summarizes some problems in task-based English teaching, which need our further study to improve them.
