Conflict And Harmony Between Ideal And Reality: The Exploration Of University Legends

The relationship between ideal and reality is always an eternal topic among the university people who have to face with and deal with it. University campus permeated with strong idealism is not a common place but a sacred forum to debate that relationship. University people become the carriers and transmitters of idealism which is put forward on the basis of social circumstances and developing trend. Ideal is not a subjective thing and it comes from reality and transcends reality. Therefore, how to deal with the relationship between ideal and reality will influence the university people's values and behaviors.The 1980s is a special time in the initial stage of Chinese reform and opening-up. At that time, university people were named'lucky person', 'social elite' and'backbone of the country', and they shouldered more social responsibilities. With the reform and opening-up policy, new things and multifarious cultural thoughts poured into China, which impacted deeply on their social values and life philosophy. Their ideal of the interests of state surpassing everything changed gradually. Nowadays, every university people try to pursuit their own ideal, which may be in totally different levels---higher or lower, and so on.This thesis studies the university legends in the 1980s and tries to analyze the ideal orientation of the university people at that time. Those people influenced by the revolutionary ideology of the 1970s have strong sense of mission. Though confronted with many difficulties and severe situations in our country, those university people still take'rejuvenating China and working for the people's interests'as their ideals. Later, with the rebuilding of the social order and the opening-up of the mind, more and more university people of 1980s come to care about personal development and establish their own ideals. On such basis, this thesis mainly discusses how the university people of 1980s handle the relationship between ideal and reality and how they can live various life experiences. By discarding the dross and selecting the essence, the author hopes to open a door for the present university people to experience the harmony of ideal and reality and enjoy the happiness of life.
