Since the reform of higher education system and especially after the college enrollment expansion in 1999, students' employment issues have become the focus of public attention. It has been 21 years since the launch of our country's career guidance project in 1989. Career development course has attracted attention at both national and local levels since 1995, yet the research on the course design in this respect is still at the exploration stage. In comparison with the traditional assessment approach, authentic assessment theory attaches greater importance to individual development and cultivation of introspective capability, which is conducive to students'making plans on career development. In terms of the results of implementation, authentic assessment method, on the one hand, has been embraced by students in that it arouses in them enthusiasm for autonomous learning and motivates them to reflect upon their own behavior, thus enhancing their ability to make plans as well as decisions on their career development; while on the other hand, this method can help teachers reflect upon their teaching and hence improve teaching, because, in the process of assessment, the problems encountered by students can be promptly detected so that teachers can better guide students.Design authentic assessment follows four steps:standards, authentic task, criteria, and rubric. This approach promotes the teaching and learning. It must be recognized that it's a tentative innovative approach to apply authentic assessment method to career development course for college students, and thus this approach needs further developing in practice. Such issues as how to create curriculum file for students and to improve training mechanism for teachers need further research.
