With the guidance of the new curriculum reform, the elementary education inChina has been promoted vigorously. New Curriculum advocates students toparticipate in class actively, which can stimulate students’ potential. New Curriculumrequires teachers to give prominence to the students and to respect the students’individual differences. The goal of learning tasks and the sense of success should beachieved in the guidance of teachers in the way of perception, experience, practice,participation and cooperation. The requirements of the new curriculum reform notonly focus on the first class English learning, but also pay attention to the practice ofthe extra–curricular English, which is to give full play to the initiative of the students,and to enhance their interest in learning English.This paper mainly studies the extra–curricular English practice at high schoolsin Ledong County area. Through investigation, the author found that there are someinadequacies in the extra–curricular English practice at high schools when they arecarried out, such as the activities in the extra–curricular English class are not perfect,which are apt to reading and writing, English corner activities are insufficient; themanagement mechanism in the extra–curricular English practice is in the absence ofeffect, the community organizations in the extra–curricular English do not play a fullrole, yet the connection between the first class and the extra–curricular English is tobe properly handled. In order to deal with the existing problems in the extra–curricular English practice at the middle schools in Ledong County area, the authordid a research. The purpose of the research is to find out the current status of the extra–curricular English practice at high schools and the existing problems, e. g, holdingdifferent kinds of activities in English corner regularly and various kinds of Englishcompetitions and adding more activities to the extra–curricular English practice aswell as improving management mechanism in the extra–curricular English practice.Besides, the complementary relationship between the first class and the extra–curricular English practice should be considered including the roles of the teachers inthe extra–curricular English practice. Based on the theory of Constructivism theory and holistic theory, this papertries to sort out the literature review at home and abroad on the extra–curricularEnglish practice. This study has been done mainly through investigation based on thequestionnaire. By analyzing and discussing the research results, the author putforward the practical solutions and recommendations, in the hope of which can behelpful to the development of the English practice of the extra–curricular activities inmiddle schools and to achieve more effective effects.
