Vocabulary teaching is a very important part of Teaching Chinese as a foreign language. But the traditional teaching method has been the subsidiary position in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, don’t get the proper attention. And the traditional vocabulary teaching methods and pattern did not follow the rule of Chinese characteristic, and it has neglected the student understanding ability or cognitive ability.Besides, it also not good to remember Chinese vocabulary and understand them. If we can combine the schema theory with the foreign Chinese vocabulary teaching, guide students use the existing schema and build a new schema to learn the vocabulary, help students build a bridge between two schemas that they’re related. It will have a positive effect about enhancing comprehension about vocabulary and the ability of memory.The purpose of this paper is using the schema theory in practice of Chinese vocabulary teaching, it starting with the definition, types, characteristics about schema and the development of schema theory, according to the problems in teaching practice, use the schema theory to deal with some problems that relate in Chinese vocabulary teaching. Point out that the schema theory is an important role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Meanwhile, we put into the schema theory for four aspects:memory, understanding, teaching and practice. To show the relationship between schema theory and vocabulary teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
