Chinese linguistics research remains mostly unknown abroad because of the lackof Chinese-English translations of academic theses. Thus, Chinese linguistics articlesmust be translated into English in order to let linguists all around the world know moreabout the research results in Chinese linguistics. For this purpose, the academic thesesentitled The Use of Adjectives as Resultative Complement in Chinese, written by MaZhen and Lu Jianming, was selected as translation material. This paper compares the differences between adjectives as the resultativecomplement and the predicate-complement structures as well as the semantic directionsof the resultative complement between Chinese and English from the perspective ofcontrastive studies of Chinese and English. Based on the comparison, this paperexplores and summarizes the translation strategies of the predicate-complementstructures between Chinese and English, namely, the conversion method, whichinvolves translating the Chinese predicate-complement structures into the correspondingEnglish words, phrases, or sentences. This paper then discusses the translation strategiesbetween Chinese and English based on discourse translation. This paper is valuable forfurther research on Chinese adjectives as resultative complement.
