A Study On The Appellation Of "The Wizard Of Oz"

Appellation words are rich and varied. In different times and different places, appellationwords also have different features. Therefore, appellation words have the very high researchvalue. In recent years, although the appellation words research has become a new exploration inthe application of the language, but about monograph is still a feeble link. This paper makes astudy of appellation words using LvYeXianZong. According to the characteristics of theappellation words, there are289relative appellation words and1002social appellation terms inLvYeXianZong. In addition, I descript and explain their characteristics. The purpose of this paperis to conduct a comprehensive analysis about the appellation words of LvYeXianZong and toprovide basic materials for the cohort study and macroexamination.The appellation of the relatives are divided into "elders","the same generation","youngergeneration" in LvYeXianZong, which include grandparents, parents, nucle, aunt, husband, wife,brother, sister, son and their spouses, daughter and their spouses, nephew, niece, grandchildrenand so on. In relative appellation words, appellation words of wife have more features andoccupy a larger proportion in the whole appellation system. There are both common appellationand special appellation, respectful appellation and modest appellation, wife and concubine in thissection.The social appellation terms are divided into "relationship"," identity","emotionalcoloring" in LvYeXianZong. The "relationship" includes master-servant relationship, host-guestrelationship, friend-rival relationship, teacher-student relationship, leader-member relationship,rich-poor relationship, peer relationship, neighbor relationship, fictive kinship relationship and soon. The "identity" is segmented into professional appellation, official position and attribute. The"emotional coloring" is divided into honorific appellation, modest appellation, name-calling andnickname. In general, the features of the social appellation terms are meaning as a whole,independence in function and integrity in structure. Among them, emotional appellation withdistinct characteristics show the lifelike character disposition and social culture and provide thelanguage materials for us to explore the social life.Through the careful division of the appellation words in LvYeXianZong, which roughly havesix major characteristics: firstly, kinship terms are more stable than social appellation, especiallyon the basal kinship terms, which include grandfather, father, mother, husband, wife, brother, sonand daughter and so on and the ancient kinship terms are very stable. Secondly, the regularpattern of the combinational kinship terms is "younger generation" follows the "elders" andfemale appellation terms behind the male. The regular pattern of the social appellation words issubordinate is inferior to superior and female subordination. They use honorific to others but use modest appellation to themselves. Fourthly, the appellation words are very rich. There are1291appellation words in LvYeXianZong. The methods of changing of the appellation words includesthe same word with the different meaning and the same meaning with the words. Fifthly, theappellation words are generalized. In the end, modern vernacular Chinese is popular.
