The translation material comes from <China:the race to market-What China’s transformation means for business, markets and the new world order>, a book written by Jonathan Story and published by Prentice Hall (FT) in2003. The book has9chapters and277pages in total, and this thesis translates10thousand words from Chapter8(which is about16thousand words). Being a Western economical scholar and a "China expert", the author Mr. Story has not only professional knowledge, but also rather rich experience by living in China for so long. Combining both academic values and scientific interest, this book is a great help to all those who know problems of Chinese economy at both macro and micro levels and wish to sort out the whole process of doing business in China. The thesis is made up of2sections. The first section is translation, with its title "<Getting China right:the multinational experience>". It mainly includes:how to choose investment targets reasonably for multinationals in China, and how to exceed market entry limits and dodge risks to better incorporate into the special political and economical systems of China and maximize the benefits. The second section is translation criticism, and its main content is analyzing the translation according to the Skopostheorie. Four parts compose this section. The first is a briefing on the main contents of this book. The second part is giving the reason for the selection of the material in two parts——the macroeconomic background and the essay itself. Thena conclusion is made: the difficulty in translating this material is moderate. In the meantime, being a foreign scholar’s analysis of Chinese economy and FDI, this material is valuable for translation and a reference work. The third part makes a thorough analysis of the essay by using Skopostheorie. According to it, the readers are targeted as those who care about China and world affairs with economic backgrounds. Due to this, the translation is to be faithful and coherent so as to satisfy its targeted readers. The last part points out two main problems of the translation. One is the limitation in the choice of material, another is the blur of translation standards.
