Hu shih was influential person in chinese modern literature history. He was widely recognized today as a key contributor to chinese liberalism and language reform in his advocacy for the use written vernacular chinese. He had wide range in interests such as literature, history, textual criticism, and pedagogy. He had educated in America and had interacted with many people at that times. Especially he created Written Vernacular Chinese which refers to forms of written Chinese based on the vernacular language. He preached the importance use of written vernacular chinese through the translation of western literatures and also he created the new his own literatures. As his work, he was exposed the "literary value" and "modernity". He made a blueprint of "Design of modern china".In this paper, It is consists of the axis of ordinates and horizontal axis coordinates based on Hu shih’s written vernacular chinese and literatures. In the axis of ordinates argues that what changes happened by the changes of era through the Hu shih’s written vernacular chinese that formed by his personal experience. Also, in the horizontal axis coordinates discusses how his insistence effected to society in the May Force Movement and how he accepted the other writer’s ideology at the same time period.In the chapter1, we inquired the written vernacular chinese before the Hu shih’s theory came out. Especially we characterized between the ancient written vernacular chinese and modern written vernacular chinese at the starting point in the Hu shih’s theory. He argued that actually the written vernacular chinese have existed language from ancient chinese era which means he did not invented the written vernacular chinese in May France Movement in his research. He insisted the both of ancient written vernacular chinese and modern written vernacular chinese had their characters and it indicated chinese traditional literature even though the written vernacular chinese covered by several reasons from educated people at that time.In the chapter2, we expressed the background of establishment how written vernacular chinese formed by his experience in America and shanghai. He wished the design of new literatures as well as the new china by the written vernacular chinese. Hu shih’s written vernacular chinese and literatures supported by many people. However, it criticized by many intellectual people as well. His ideal of the design of new china effected to the chinese society around the May Force Movement.In the chapter3, we analyzed the ideal of Hu shih’s the design of new china from his actual literature works analysis. He stated detail conditions for creates the new china through his plays, poems, novels and translations. In his works of written vernacular Chinese includes factors of "personality","normal people"," feminie"," modern mind","modern people",and "modern society". In this chapter, on the one hand we explored how he used the written vernacular chinese in his literature works. On the other hands, we discussed how he changed a vestige of feudal society to the new modern idea.In the conclusion, how the Hu shih’s written vernacular chinese and literature works affected to the May Force Movement and how it developed to new literatures in the chinese history. Throughout the Hu shih’s works, we argued that the axis of ordinates and the horizontal axis coordinates made one point of spot by the Hu shih’s personal experience and his effectiveness on the history of china. The writer thinks that" The May Force Movement" was not his personal result but we need the man like Hu shih who was brave speakers in front of many educated people. So that he contributed " The May Force Movement" in the fairly side.
