No matter in foreign countries or in China, the phenomenon of homosexualityhas a long history, which has aroused more and more social attention since AcquiredImmune Deficiency Syndrome(AIDS) was firstly found in a couple of American gaysin1980s. And the public’s negative attitude to homosexuality has become a newfocus because of their misunderstanding such as equating homosexuality to AIDS.So far, most of studies concerning people’s attitude to homosexuality in ourcountry has taken college students in relatively developed area as the research object. However, underdeveloped Yunnan is located in southwest China and many ethnicminorities live in this province, which make Yunnan special. In addition, there areonly a few of studies concerning changing people’s attitude to homosexuality. Mainlyfocusing on the reason of homosexuality’s influence on attitude, these studies don’tconsider the influence of other factors and can’t get consistent conclusion. This studyis the supplement of original studies, in order to know the state of attitude tohomosexuality, discuss factors influencing the change of attitude to homosexualityand improve living state of gays and lesbians. The study consists of two parts. The first part probes into college students’attitude to homosexuality and the difference between attitudes of college studentswho have different demographic information. The second part presents three groups(six kinds) of self-designed materials of homosexual story to participants, in order toexamine how the reason, ending and gender of homosexuality affect the change ofcollege students’ attitude to homosexuality. From the study, we have mainly come to these conclusions:1. College students’ attitude towards homosexuality is relatively tolerant, withreasonable acceptance in the mass. They don’t reject gays or lesbians. The majority ofcollege students can accept the homosexual group or show neutral attitude, only asmall proportion of college students with the attitude of rejection.2. The mean difference test of scale scores of college students who havedifferent demographic information show: Male college students’ attitude towards homosexuality is more negative than female college students’. College students whodon’t have homosexual friends, relatives or idols show more negative attitude towardshomosexuality than those who have. Non-only-child college students’ attitudetowards homosexuality is more negative than only-child college students’. Collegestudents coming from countries show more negative attitude towards homosexualitythan college students coming from cities and towns, whose attitude don’t havesignificant difference. There is no significant difference between the attitudes of theHan nationality and ethnic minorities to homosexuality. Similarly, no significantdifference exists between the attitudes of college students of the Han nationality, theYi nationality and the Bai nationality on the whole; however, college students of theHan nationality show more acceptance in cognition than college students of the Yinationality, and college students of the Han nationality and the Bai nationality showmore acceptance in emotion than college students of the Yi nationality. There is nosignificant difference between the attitudes of college students of Science and liberalarts on the whole, but college students of liberal arts show more acceptance inemotion than college students of Science. Love experiences don’t influence collegestudents’ attitude towards homosexuality.3. After reading the material which provides the view that homosexuality iscongenital, college students’ attitude towards homosexuality becomes more tolerant;meanwhile, the attitude of the college students reading the material which providesthe view that homosexuality is acquired doesn’t have significant change.4. After reading the material whose heroes or heroines are accepted by theirparents, college students’ attitude towards homosexuality becomes more tolerant;meanwhile, the attitude of the college students reading the material whose heroes orheroines are not accepted by their parents doesn’t have significant change.5.
