In recent years, as China’s comprehensive national strength increasing rapidly, Chinese international status in the world is improved. People from all over the world are full of curious for Chinese long history. It is a common phenomenon that people have enthusiasm for learning Chinese around the world. Today, for the convenience of foreigners learning Chinese, Confucius institutes were built in many countries. More and more people are aware of the charming of Chinese, so Chinese are spreading all over the world. During the teaching and communication, Chinese learners try to learn and use some idioms, but it is difficult. And when they use them, there are many errors, especially when using Chinese animal idioms. In current Chinese textbooks, there doesn’t have a complete system about the cultural intension of Chinese animal idioms. It should be improved if used for teaching Chinese as foreign language for the scattered structures.Chinese idioms are the crystallization of China’s traditional culture, and confirm the development of China. As an integral part of the Chinese idiom, Chinese animal idioms play a huge role in the development of Chinese culture. It is important to use Chinese animal idioms properly for Chinese learners to learn Chinese and know Chinese culture. Animal idioms have the characteristics of concise, succinct and stability, so it will have very good results if mastering animal idioms.This paper is divided into four parts: the first part is an introduction, which introduces the purpose, the meaning and the status. At the same time, it makes statements for the research content, theories, methods, data sources and innovations. From collecting and arranging materials researched by scholars from home and abroad about the animal idioms and the teaching of animal idioms for Chinese learners, we find out the inadequacies of the study. The second part is the analysis of animal idiom from multiple perspectives, which includes the structure and meaning of animal idioms. The third part introduces the types of errors the Chinese learners made when learning animal idioms and the reasons. Firstly, the questionnaire was designed, and the foreign students are invited to complete the questionnaire survey. And then, summarize and analyze the results of the survey. Secondly, analyzing the errors and the reasons of why they make mistakes when they use the animal idioms. The last part puts forward some teaching principles and teaching methods according to the deficiencies during the teaching process, such as the source description, performance, the show of cartoon and pictures.Through the comprehensive analysis, we hope that this paper can provide some teaching methods in the teaching of Chinese animal idioms. With the most simple and easiest way, teachers show the knowledge to learners to help them make it easier to learn, understand and use Chinese animal idioms.
