Cultural Fusion - Written By Liu Yizhong In Hong Kong

As one of the writers emigrating from mainland to Hong Kong in the early 1950s,Liu Yichang has two different life experiences which both mainland and Hong Kong,He consciously fuses the Chinese traditional aesthetic habits with western modernism writing techniques,so that to created a group of fictions which have strong modernism consciousness and close to the Hong Kong civilians.Since he came to Hong Kong,Liu Yichang insisted to writing the serious literature in this commercial community popular with public entertainment culture.He not only received the independent introspection consciousness from May Fourth Generation intellectual,but also not limited by traditional model of Chinese literature.He fully absorbed the creative ideas and techniques of the French New Novel,and took efforts to expand the territory of literature.His creation, especially after coming Hong Kong,broke the geopolitical pattern between the mainland and Hong Kong,and observed urban space and cultural environment in a broader, more inclusive eyes.This dissertation regards Liu Yichang as research object,studies a series his novels which on the background of Hong Kong metropolitan after 1950s,presents his inheritance and transformation of culture from Shanghai to Hong Kong,and the fusion in his novels.Introduction of this dissertation briefly shows Liu Yichang’s life experience and literary creation,collecting some papers and monographs about him.Dissertation mainbody is divided into three parts.First Part introduces his mainland life and creative experience before 1949,and faced with the survival challenge and literature creation predicament after coming Hong Kong. Second part mainly analyzes the novels of Liu Yichang which from the outline of Hong Kong urban space and classic characters in his novels.From his writing on urban space to get to know his psychological change in the process of accepting Hong Kong.There are two kinds of typical images in his novels,respectively are the mental anxiety and the indulging in dream.We can analyze the social state of Hong Kong civilians in his eyes,especially the review of people’s survival anxiety and morbid personality in this materialistic society which competing fiercely.Third part discusses culture fusion in his creation from three aspects,respectively are inheritance of the May Fourth literary tradition,the absorption of French New Novel’s writing techniques and the fusion of tradition and modernity in his newly organized stories.This dissertation tries to collate Liu Yichang’s literary creation after his coming Hong Kong.Liu is not the only one which shows cultural fusion,the research of his creation has important significance to study creation mentality and identity construction of the writers emigranting from mainland to Hong Kong.It’s prominent characteristics of absorb anything and everything about mainland and Hong Kong,traditional and modern,elite culture and commercial culture on Liu Yichang,and this research has important effects on clarify venation of 20th Chinese culture development and the multielement trend of Chinese literature.
