Reading course as an important training course of a special language skill plays an important role in the teaching system of Chinese as a foreign language. In recent years, the elementary Chinese reading course has received much attention from scholars, and the teaching pattern, teaching material analysis, teaching method of it has been studied by scholars.Reading is based on the accumulation of vocabulary. For beginners, who study Chinese for quite a short time and are lack of Chinese language knowledge, it is difficult to give them a course of reading skill training in the elementary Chinese reading class. The author believed it is significant to enhance students’language competence in the elementary Chinese reading course, as it would increase their language knowledge accumulation, promote their language competence and lay a solid foundation for reading skills training. It must be a meaningful topic selection.This paper aims to find a sound teaching method for the elementary Chinese reading course through diligent researching and practical teaching experiences. This paper points out that through the training of students’ listening, speaking and writing skills in the reading class, their language knowledge and language level have advanced in an all-round way. In addition, this paper also lists some specific teaching methods, which would make a contribution to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.
