In 1979, Japan NHK invited CCTV to co-shot the documentary Silk Road, which recorded the history and culture of the areas along Silk Road, and this documentary started the cooperation among China and other foreign countries. After 25 years, China teamed with Japan a second time and co-shot New Silk Road, which made audience to understand the vital transport line connected western and eastern culture. In the year of 2013, CCTV made a home-documentary-Silk Road, The Journey Goes On, which presented audience a new image in a different angle. Therefore, the object of study is the Silk Road documentary film, based on the theory of film narratology, analyzed the features of the three documentaries respectively.The study sample of this essay is Silk Road, New Silk Road and Silk Road, The Journey Goes On, analyzed the features of the three documentaries under the different social underground, and compared the three documentaries on the narrative perspective, narrative method, narrative structure and narrative style. The writer considered that the narrative angles are diversified and popularized, and the narrative methods and structures are more various. Besides that, the documentaries focused on Silk Road can extract potential value and lay more emphasis on shaping and spreading national image. And the documentaries are beneficial to bring China’s culture about the Silk Road to the world.
