Since its inception,the Silk Road has played an invaluable historical role.Whether in ancient times when China was famous for its trade,or in today's society when it promoted the development of economy,the Silk Road has deeply influenced on the development of China and even all countries along the Silk Road.Both the documentaries of The Silk Road and The New Silk Road show the past and present of this main drag in western China on the basis of history and by making use of documentary features.Taking two documentaries as the research object,this paper makes a detailed discussion and analysis about the social background,filming process,content and influence.The main content of this study is the history and influence of Sino-Japan co-production on the new and old versions about The Silk Road.This study mainly adopts text analysis method and interview method.Firstly,through the existing historical materials and related reports,the author analyzes the historical and social reasons for the shooting of two documentaries;secondly,based on the content of the two documentaries,the author illustrates the shooting process of them and highlights “old” and “new” elements in content of them on the basis of the existing research;last,the author summarizes the comprehensive impact after broadcasting the two documentaries on China and Japan.Moreover,based on the interviews with Mr.Li Zhongwu and Mr.Qin Chuan,the author describes the social impact on China and Japan of the two versions of documentaries about The Silk Road that co-produced by China and Japan,as well as the profound impact on domestic documentary lovers and the documentary industry respectively.This study is divided into three chapters.First,the author introduces the background of shooting the two versions of The Silk Road from three parts: in the first part,the author analyzes that Japan's “Asianism” is the realistic demand of creation of shooting the documentary The Silk Road.Next,the author analyzes the role of Mr.Yasushi Inoue and his works on the theme of western regions in promoting the filming of the two versions of documentaries The Silk Road.Last,theauthor expounds that the political background of the normalization of Sino-Japan diplomatic relations has a positive influence on the two documentaries.Starting from the texts of old and new versions of The Silk Road,The second chapter firstly illustrates the shooting process of these documentaries,then focuses on texts of both the new and old versions of The Silk Road,and analyzes the differences between the new and old versions,CCTV version and NHK version of The Silk Road.The third chapter is based on the impact of these two documentaries.It firstly analyzes the social impact of the filming and broadcasting of the old and new versions in China and Japan.Next,the author explores the influence of the two documentaries on the propagandistic image of the Gansu province.Last,the author expatiates that the co-production of the two documentaries has a profound impact on China's documentary industry.
