Alternative Interpreting Under The Guidance Of Translation Theory

This paper addresses the guidance of variation theory in consecutive interpretation(CI). As consecutive interpretation is affected by time, speaker, circumstance and other factors, the interpreter needs a theory to guide the work. First of all, bas ing on the variation theory, the necessity and importance of variation theory in CI is justified. Next, the problems are summarized in the preparation for the National Accreditation Examinations for Translators and Interpreters(NAETI) by analyzing the practice materials. Next listed are the methods of the application of the main variants to the solution of the difficult problems. Finally, basing on the practice of CI in the preparation, the guidance of variation theory to CI and suggestions on effective applications of the theory are generalized.
