The purpose of this thesis is to explore the adaptations in the field of Chinese-English communication, with the Translation Variation Theory as the guiding theory and the corpus of Foreign Minister Wang Yi's answers to questions from Chinese and foreign journalists at the two sessions as the example for analysis.By comparing different source language sentences with the interpreted ones, this thesis analyzes the reasons and communicative effects of the interpreter's use of specific adaptation from the differences of word-using habits and sentence-making rules between Chinese and English, illustrating the guiding role of Translation Variation Theory in interpreting.Addition can solve the problem of ambiguous sentence meaning and absence of subject, making the audiences understand the general idea of the speaker more comprehensively and accurately;omission can solve the problem of repetitive expression, minimizing the waste of interpretation time;variation can solve the problem that the sentences are not expressed properly, making the interpretation more consistent with the linguistic habits of the target language;combination can solve the problem of loose sentence organization, making the sentence structure more compact and complete;edition can solve the problem of inappropriate sentence order, making the sentence content more organized and logical.Based on the analysis of the purpose of Translation Variation Theory and the summary of its application range in interpretation, this thesis clarifies that this theory is highly practical guiding press conference interpretation.Adaptations under the Translation Variation Theory can be directly applied to different interpretation situations as interpretation methods and techniques, which can also provide a reference for those engaged in interpreting.
