This report is based on the translation of the fourth chapter of An Introduction to Applied Linguistics: From Practice to Theory entitled "Applied linguistics and language learning/teaching", which is the core part of this book of applied linguistics. As a classical kind of academic discourse, the linguistic book is characterized with a strong academic and logical nature, complicated syntactic and text structures, etc. Based on those text features and the Skopos Theory, this report offers solutions for problems that arise in the process of translation practice, such as difficult vocabulary, attributive and adverbial clauses and discourse logic. The report systematically sums up the translation strategies consistent with the characteristics of linguistic books, such as translating vocabularies according to the context, translating attributive and adverbial clauses by using various methods and translating discourse with cohesion and coherence strategies, striving to express exactly what the author wants to say on the basis of accurately understanding the original, so that to some extent, it may provide some reference for the study of the translation of western applied linguistics books.
