| Pragmatic translation generally refers to the translation of non-literary works, which aims at delivering message.Professor Fang Mengzhi has ever noted that pragmatic translation covers a large range of translation texts, including government documents, scientific papers, legal documents, business letters, popular literature, and so on.Nowadays pragmatic translation presents a trend of vigorous development.Making Great Decisions in Business and Life is shelved as book of economy, for non-academic readers. So the translation of this book is that of pragmatic translation.Skopos theory was first formulated by the German scholar Hans J.Vermeer in 1978.Then it was developed and applied in Western countries by Western scholars.Generally, scholars regard the theories of Katharina Reiss,Hans J.Vermeer,Justa Holz-Manuari,and Christiane Nord as the theoretical system of functionalist translation, with Vermeer as the founder of Skopos theory.Vermeer has described that every translation is directed at an intended audience, since translation means to produce a text in a target setting for a target purpose and target addresses in target circumstances.Skopos theory, which focuses on the purpose of translation practice and the function of translation text, has a significant influence on the translation practice. This paper is an E-C translation report of Making Great Decisions in Business and Life, and consists of four chapters.Chapter 1 is an overview of the translation project, introducing the project background and the characteristics of the text.Chapter 2 describes the process of translation, including pre-translation preparation, translation and post-translation revision.Chapter 3 is the case analysis under the guidance of skopos theory.Chapter 4 summarizes the translation experience, lessons and remained problems in the translation process. The author thinks that Skopos theory can help translators produce a qualified translation text. |
