On The Social Economy Of Bohai State From The Relics Of Bohai Site

Bohai State is a local regional government which was established by Mohe in northeast area of China, northeast area of Korean Peninsula and Russian Far East in Tang Dynasty. It has a significant impact on politics, economy and social development. Especially on economy, it narrowed the gap progressively to Central Plains and made brilliant achievement. The development on Bohai State cannot be separated from its suitable natural environment, relatively stable domestic and international politics and the study of advanced civilization from Central Plains, on which Bohai State get a rapid development on economy. This thesis is based on Archaeological research, which makes a more in-depth inquiry on social economic development in Bohai State. The author searched a large number of archaeological findings and divided the economic production categories into three kinds, animal husbandry and fishery, metal smelting and processing industry and other handicraft-industry.The development of Bohai State agriculture is represented by the use of iron tools. They are iron sickle, spade, shovel and blade besides iron ploughshare. There are varieties of crops. Particularly unusual, the people brought the rice to north latitude 44°and constructed irrigation system of rice. Bohai State did better in animal husbandry development. The people raised pigs, dogs, chicken, cattle and sheep in scattered farming but not in scale. The horses in Bohai State were with good quality and used to tribute and foreign trade. They also feed dogs for meet as pigs but not guiding. Bohai State is rich in hunting and fishing resources and with high level of hunting and fishing. Netting in Bohai was approximate to modern netting. The people had got tools to hunting big fishes and may have the abilities of hunting and fishing in ocean.In the second part, the author makes a research on metal smelting and manufacturing in Bohai State. There are varieties of mineral resources within borders. The people had mastered the technology of ore mining, smelting and manufacturing. The product is more for themselves and for sale abroad. On smelting, the people can make the fire to certain temperature. They added other materials to make utensil with copper. They added tin or lead into copper to make brass or bronze which made it easy to break. Also, they had mastered the skills of gilt and silver flatting technology.On the third part, the author grasped the categories and features of handicraft industry by analysis of life appliances and other handmade products. First, the people are not only good at leather industry, but fur processing, for example Anmo boots. Second, they can produce pottery and porcelain, even three-color filter. They have already mastered a relative high level technology of ceramics making. Third, they brought in mulberries and mastered the technology of sericulture reeling and weaving silk.From the above research, the author gets the following resulting. First, we can make sure that the developing of Bohai State economy was relatively high. In only more two hundred years, it shortened the distance to Central Plains and other developed area. Second, the development in Bohai State was not in balance. The central area developed faster than remote areas. Some areas even kept the original life style, which made a big difference between rich and poor and influence the whole society. Third, the economy in Bohai State relied excessively on foreign trade. They should exchange some products directly with surrounding areas.
