"XuanShi Zhi" is a legend during the late Tang Dynasty, which is a story collection, written by Zhang du. This book has more than 80,000 words. It is rich in content and well-preserved a large number of lexical data in the late Tang Dynasty. It is suitable for the research of polysyllabic words.With the polysyllabic word s of "XuanShi Zhi" as research target. Using the exhaustive statistics, the quantitative analysis method, the diachronic study with synchronic study unifies, uses the method of the traditional exegetic, combined with the tools and the means to statistics the polysyllabic words of "XuanShi Zhi",summarized the classification,building a corpus. Then thorough study the polysyllabic words from semantic, part of speech and word order three aspects. Finally, summarize the general characteristics.This thesis has five parts. The first part is the introduction, mainly discusses the life of the author Zhang du, the research status of the "XuanShi Zhi", overall the polysyllabic words of "XuanShi Zhi". The second part mainly study the phonetic word formation, divided into overlapping and non overlapping words disyllabic and polysyllabic words, quantitative classification of statistical word appears, the number of statistical classification words, accounts for the proportion of disyllabic words in this book, and comparative analysis from the structure and meaning.The third part is the grammatical formation, is the main part of the whole thesis.Divided into the combined type,the formal type, the verb object type, the subject predicate type, the complement type,the additional type and comprehensive type of polysyllabic words.Respectively to analyse and describe the various grammatical formation from part of speech, word order and the semantic perspective.The statistics of various types of word formation accounts for the proportion of the book, study of the development and changes in the late Tang Dynasty grammar and word formation. The fourth part from the whole description of the structural features of "XuanShi Zhi" polysyllabic words and historical comparison. The fifth part is the conclusion,Summary the vocabulary features and characteristics of "XuanShi Zhi",Found the development change trend of the late Tang Dynasty polysyllabic words from the diachronic and synchronic study contrast.
