In the past several years, teaching Chinese as a second language has a booming development, and the textbooks of teaching Chinese as a second language are abundant including domestic and overseas. However, the quality of these textbooks is various. Chinese vocabulary as the important part in teaching Chinese as a second language can affect the students’Chinese learning. Meanwhile, there are some problems on the vocabulary part of the textbook, especially the translation equivalents. The thesis has researched completely the translation equivalents from the New Practical Chinese Reader and the Integrated Chinese, then worked out the number of the translation equivalents and classified them. We finger out that the number of the translation equivalents of the Chinese textbook on beginning level accounts for a large property. After comparing the two series of textbooks published in the different backgrounds (China and US), we find that the principles for dealing with the translated equivalents are strict distinguishing, partial distinguishing and the identity. Then we have analyzed the errors from the learners who use the English as the intermediate language and the causes of the errors. Finally, we give some suggestions on the textbook compiling and Chinese teaching based on the others’researches and my own teaching experience. The study is divided into six parts:the first part is summary about the topic, stating the study’value and significance and the related researches. The second part explains the translation equivalent concept, classifies the translation equivalents based on the semantics and pragmatics, and explores the causes of the translation equivalents. The third part, make the statistics on the translation and analyze them, further compare the principles for dealing with translation equivalents from the two series of textbooks. The forth part is the analysis of translation equivalents error, and it helps us find the causes of errors. The fifth part:we make some suggestions on the textbook compiling and teaching aiming at the errors. The last part is the conclusion.
