Success achieved after China implemented reform and opening up has not only helped improve status of China but also expanded its influence in the international arena. China and Vietnam are neighboring countries with a strong long-term relationship and similar history and culture. Up to now, China has greatly influenced Vietnam in many aspects, especially in culture, education and ideology.... In recent years, with the cooperation and development between China and Vietnam in all fields, Chinese has demonstrated its important role as a bridge in the bilateral cooperation and development between two countries. Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city of Vietnam, where most ethnic Chinese reside in Vietnam; so it is considered an important area for teaching Chinese in Vietnam. Teaching Chinese in Ho Chi Minh City has undergone a long development process with some certain features, which not only brings me a convenient starting point, but also a good study space for this survey. Through the paper, we can understand more about Chinese teaching situation, Chinese learners, levels of Chinese teaching development in Ho Chi Minh city in current context, then seek to generate appropriate strategies to adjust and improve the quality of Chinese teaching in this city. This article mainly used a combination of two methods of questionnaire surveys and direct interviews, based on results and information from the surveys and interviews to conduct statistical data, then to compare, analyze and make conclusions. The contents of the questionnaire survey were divided into two main parts; one was conducted in teachers who were teaching Chinese at Chinese education centers in Ho Chi Minh City and the other part aimed at surveying Chinese and non-Chinese learners. Surveying Chinese teachers showed main contents including genders, ethnics, age-structure, types of teaching agencies, teaching years, educational background of Chinese teachers, teaching Chinese locations as well as in-class situation, etc. With Chinese and non-Chinese learners, the content of survey included genders, ethnics, age-structure, learners’ characteristics, learning objectives, Chinese level, difficulties in learning Chinese, and approaches of learning Chinese. After analyzing the data and survey results, some suggestions for Chinese language teaching in Ho Chi Minh were made, including how to expand scale of Chinese teaching and improve training quality.First, the Chinese educational institutions can be seen in the case of teachers, the teachers have a greater gender gap; and the teachers are relatively young. Although teachers qualifications meet the standards prescribed by the state, but basically lack doctorate with senior Chinese teachers.Second, regarding the number of Chinese learners, it was evident that there were more women than men in terms of genders. The Target learners mainly were students with significant differences in the objectives and the level of study.Thirdly, about giving some proposals of teaching Chinese in Ho Chi Minh City, the first step is focusing on expanding scale of teaching Chinese in HCM. Then, training teachers should be reinforced to improve quality of teaching and learning Chinese in HCM. The final step is quickly founding Kong Zi Institute in the whole country to create convenient conditions for developing the cooperation in teaching Chinese between in Vietnam and China.I hope that through the data and the survey, we can understand more about remaining problems and shortcomings in Chinese training in Ho Chi Minh city. Also, it can be a reference for Chinese training centers in the city to go deeply into analyzing and solving problems, then helping enhance the quality of Chinese teaching, as well as developing Chinese training in the future.
