In this paper, methods like quantitative statistics and directional analysis are used to investigate and study 280 foreigners’ participation in extracurricular activities of Foreign Chinese Teaching, who come from 43 countries to learn Chinese in China. Based on the existing studies of extracurricular activities of Foreign Chinese Teaching, the author designs a questionnaire to investigate their participation in these extracurricular activities. The findings show that:firstly, international students think that extracurricular activities are interesting and that they are willing to take part in these activities; secondly, most of the international students are willing to participate in the extracurricular activities of Foreign Chinese Teaching and can actively seize the opportunity to use Chinese in these activities; thirdly, the international students consider that the participation of these activities help to improve their Chinese proficiency. In the meantime, this study also reveals some problems occurring in extracurricular activities of Foreign Chinese Teaching:firstly, the number of extracurricular activities of Foreign Chinese Teaching cannot meet international students’ needs for these activities; secondly, as Chinese teachers have assumed a lot of classroom teaching and scientific research tasks, their participation in these extracurricular activities is not so active; thirdly, international students have a limited understanding of extracurricular activities, which leads to the consequence that non-school extracurricular activities do not play their due role; fourthly, since the purposes of extracurricular activities are not clearly stated, the extracurricular activities organized by the school do not achieve so fruitful results as non-school extracurricular activities; fifthly, the task difficulty of extracurricular activities fit the Chinese proficiency of international students, but the language materials is harder for international students in the extracurricular activities. To solve the problems identified in this study, the author proposes countermeasures from two perspectives:First of all, from the perspective of the department in charge of administration of international students, they should not only pay enough attention to extracurricular activities of Foreign Chinese Teaching, carry out more extracurricular activities and enrich the contents of these activities, but also mobilize the international students to create clubs for themselves and conduct relevant activities in the face of limited faculty resources. Secondly, from the perspective of Chinese teachers, they may do as follows:firstly, they may use a variety of modern communication platforms to improve the international students’ understanding of extracurricular activities and enhance their interest and enthusiasm in these activities;secondly, they should specify the purposes of extracurricular activities and tailor some activities for these students; thirdly, they should improve their cross-cultural literacy to better help international students deal with the language differences occurring in extracurricular activities.
