The Image Of Confucian Scholars In The Novels Of Short Stories In Qing Dynasty

Classical Chinese short ghost story are stories about gods and genies.These stories always reflects the authors’ love, hate, ideal and pursuit by describing some miraculous things. After the emergence in Wei and Jin Dynasty, the development of Tang dynasty, classical Chinese short ghost story climbed on a new peak in Qing dynasty.Some excellent stories were created,such as Liao Zhai Zhi Yi,Yue Wei Cao Tang Bi Ji and Zi Bu Yu. Some stories still circulate today.Most can be seen in the following 25 books;Liao Zhai Zhi Yi,Xie Duo,Liu Ya Wai Bian,Liu He Nei Wai Suo Yan,Xiao Dou Peng,Ying Chuang Yi Cao,Zi Bu Yu,Ye Tan Sui Lu,Ting Yu Xuan Bi Ji,Yue Wei Cao Tang Bi Ji,Er Shi Lu,San Yi Bi Tan,Zhi Wen Lu,Lv Yuan Cong Hua,Mai You Ji,Li Cheng,Dun Ku Lan Yan,Jiao Chou Ji,You Tai Xian Guan Bi Ji,Song Bin Suo Hua,Hou Liao Zhai Zhi Yi,Zui Cha Zhi Guai,Ye Yu Qiu Deng Lu,Ke Chuang Xian Hua and Wei Zhe Cong Tan. There is a close contact between Confucians in the stories and the reality.Confucians in the sroties are the reflections of the authors or their ideal figures. Reading these stories give us a chance to know about the Confucians in Qing Dynasty. Research on this kind of image will help us understand the survival condition and the inner world of the Confucians in Qing Dynasty.In addition to gods and genies, maybe we should pay some attention to ordinary people. These ordinary people have the most real desire and helplessness. Their material life and spiritual world is worthy of careful study,because we can see the scholars’ attitude about society,faith,life and tradition through these images. Although Confucians who have personality are rarely be seen in these stories,the cultural connotation and reflection of social reality on them are still worth to be researched.The first chapter is about the concept of the topic and the scope of the research. Related research status has been collected.And research methods and innovations was stated in this chapter.The second chapter mainly devided the Confucians into saveral kinds according to their social status, principles,abilities and life type.We will research the confucians’ living conditions and ideology. The third chapter mainly researched the ideology and culture on the Confucians by stating the darkness of the world,the change of genies,the nihility of life and the ambivalence about tradition. From these four aspects,we can know about the Confucians’ desire of personal happiness and value realization in Qing Dynasty. The fourth chapter reasearched some individualized Confucians with humorous behavior and words. And we also can see Confucians in the stories are not so important like some other roles. The reason for it is complicated,such as the authors’tendency,the readers’ interest and the historical background. The conclusion make an objective evaluation to the Confucians in the classical Chinese short ghost story, and affirm their value and status in the history of literature.
