For further international cooperation as well as the complex international relations, the competition between countries is not only a political, military, economic and other hard power, but also the competition of soft power. As an important part of soft power, national image are increasingly brought to the attention of the countries. This thesis will analyze the soft power from three aspects that are content, the form of shape and the effect, based on these study cases which include the large public media event, documentary ”A Bite of China”, the Confucius institute and 2014 APEC meeting in Beijing. Based on these cases studying, this thesis will discuses these points that are how to present in national image, what national image is shown, and how to improve the cognition to the national image. According to these study result, exploring a path that can help to create China’s national image.This thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is introduction. It introduces the situations of he national image and the theory of intercultural communication and so on which include the background, significance, research status in all over the world and the framework for the writing of this thesis. The second part shows the details of academic theory that are about the culture, cross-cultural communication as well as the national image and so on. These details include its concept, theoretical framework, research direction, and so on. The third part mainly studies this point that how to present China’s national image in different carriers and effect of China’s national image in different carriers. Showing the different ways for shaping national image in different cases, perspectives and breakthrough point. At the same time, trying to analyze the trends and dynamic of China’s national image creating in recent years for Chinese government.The research shows that China’s national image of cross-cultural communication, not only spread the problem is simple, but the outward display of aggregate economic, political, social, cultural, national quality, social life. At present, China in shaping the image of the country has made some achievements, but compared with developed countries in terms of national image, we have many shortcomings, such as shaping this stage of China’s national image are mostly led by government complete division of labor; lack of awareness of the importance of the media; somewhat lacking in our external communication skills. Improve the above shortcomings, China’s national image will be changed.
