A Comparative Study Of Chinese And Japanese Negative Forms And Teaching Chinese As A Foreign Language

No matter in Chinese or in Japanese, in the study of Chinese or the study of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, negative expressions both play a irreplaceable role. We can find an immense number of books and papers which do research in negative expressions both in Chinese and in Japanese. The content that linguists discuss involves the negative word, the negative adverb, the negative scope, the negative focus, the symmetry between negative and affirmative expressions, the collocation of negative word and adverb and so on. Although there are a lots of achievements in each language, we must realize that researches which contrast negative expressions between Chinese and Japanese are still abundant. Considering that, this paper tries to do a deep description and analysis on the contrast of Chinese negative expressions and Japanese negative expressions based on multi-perspective views. To specific, this paper will refer to the negative words, the forms of negative expressions, the negative scope and focus, the symmetries between negative and affirmative and the double negative expressions. We say that practice is the criterion for testing truth, so does the language theory. The knowledge we studied is expected to direct the practice of teaching, as to our major, we would use theories to give advices to the Chinese teaching to foreigners. So the last part of this paper is to make four suggestions to Chinese teaching.
