| The late Qing Dynasty to modern time is a turbulent time period when our country was experiencing social transformation suffering from the increasingly deepen of national crisis, turbulence of political situation, tangled battles and separation among warlords,constantly nature and man-made disasters and the hard public living environment.Intellectuals from different social hierarchies published and issued articles to present their own opinions trying to find the path of improving current the social situation. Many scholars believed that in order to improve the current situation in China, feudal thoughts and sense must be eradicated from people’s mind while democracy and science should be advocated to change the old face of the society and to get rid of the predicament of semi-colonial and semi-feudal society. Yuanshao Jiang was one of them. Yuanshao Jiang’s study on customs was distinctive: he teased the customs from a large number of ancient literatures and recomposed many enlightenment custom short sketches in easy-to-understand and simple language to popularize science. Shaoyuan Jiang’s study on customs focused on the field close to people’s daily life like religion, etiquette, belief,superstition, etc. to reveal the ridiculousness in traditional etiquette and customs in order to establish the new, scientific and healthy public daily life. Shaoyuan Jiang explored the new field of custom study, invented the study method of Chinese modern academic research, and pushed an academic revolution of studying down-to-earth. He obtained the remarkable achievement in Chinese modern academy history. |
