Hugo Wolf(1860-1903) is the famous Austrian composer and music critic in the late 19 th century. He has been like poetry since childhood and he pays more attention to the literariness of lyrics, his music is strictly divided by the section of the poetry and the stress. With the unique techniques of creation such as melody, harmony, piano accompaniment and so on, the artistic conception of poetry can be reflected. He has inherited the traditional techniques of creation which can be traced back to the traditional techniques of creation of art music in period of Schubert, and he also adheres to the Wagner’s creation concept. Finally his own unique music style and features has been born, it gives higher artistic value to art song, and promotes the transition from art song of romanticism period to modern art song of the 20 th century.‘Morike Lieder’ was written in 1888 which is the first representative work of Hugo Wolf during his mature period. It includes 53 pieces of song in total, most songs are made by durchkomponiert, and the music form is free. With the successional singing melodies, complex and changeable accompaniment, bold and rich harmony language, frequent tonal transformation, he has developed the traditional techniques of creation extremely and made innovation for it. ‘Morike Lieder’ is the typical of his style and technique creation work.This research object is based on the Hugo Wolf ’s song ‘Morike Lieder’, it analyze the historical background and style characteristics of this work. Full text is divided into three chapters: The first chapter describes the overview of Hugo Wolf ’s life and creation. The second chapter is the analyses of ‘Morike Lieder’ style characteristics according to the music form structure, melody, speed, rhythm, piano accompaniment and so on. The third chapter focuses on the deep analyses of wide using of the discord chord and non-chord tone the sound, and the harmony vocabulary reflected by the major and minor tunes and tonal thinking characteristics for ‘Morike Lieder’ this work has carried on the thorough analysis, and summarizes the inheritance, development and fusion of traditional art song which Hugo Wolf has achieved.
