Zhang Zao’s poetry was judged the perfect combination of traditional poetry and modern poetry. His poetry absorbs Chinese traditional space consciousness, and shows the western spatial awareness. This article attempts to analyze Zhang Zao how to integrate the two different spatial consciousness into his poetry. This essay, which has four parts, is a review of “space”of Zhang Zao’s poems.Chapter 1 compare the differences of spatial consciousness between Chinese classicalpoetry and modern Western poetry. Under the influence of Chinese traditional philosophy,Chinese classical poetry forms chaotic invisible space that like “qi”.Under the influence of geometry, modern Western poetry forms tangible Stereo space as“ spatial form”.Chapter 2 elaborates the Chinese traditional space consciousness in Zhang Zao’s poems. It consists of two parts, on the one hang, the spatiality of Chinese permeates into Zhang Zao’s poetry. On the other hand, Zhang Zao’s poetry shows Chinese traditional“Unity of Man and Nature”“ blank ”“circulating” spatial awareness.Chapter 3 explores the western spatial consciousness in Zhang Zaos poems under Joseph Frank’s spatial form theory. Zhang Zao uses four methods to build the Stereo sense of space in his poetry. The four methods are “instantaneous fixation”“multiple time”“juxtaposition of images”and“multiple perspectives”.Chapter 4 analyses the sense of “light”“sweet”and“slow”in Zhang Zao’s poems, following Chinese traditional space consciousness of “qi”.
