Clerical script originates from seal script.Its basic techniques of brushwork are the tip of the writing brush dropping down the paper in the opposite direction of the stroke and spreading the brush to show the force in the middle process of the stroke,at last the brush coming out in the same direction of the stroke.From Han dynasty to Tang dynasty and then to Qing dynasty. The development of the clerical script experienced three peaks.and its techniques presented new contents, along with the development of different times.Its main stroke shapes just like the head of the silkworm in the front and the tail of goose at the end. The transition of the stroke are usually divided into two steps.The Han clerical script was descended from the seal script.It uses the brush forcefully in the middle of the stroke.It is not only quaint but also vigorous and flowing.The clerical in Wei and Jin dynasties apply to the method of carving knife and displaying the angular part,which result in square and regularity.The calligraphers in Tang dynasty use the law of regular script to make clerical script. Especially they made it neat and smooth.The calligraphers in Song dynasty admire their natural feelings,the clerical script weakened.In Yuan and Ming dynasties,the calligraphers learn from Zhong and Liang,using the brush stiffly and rigidly.In Qing dynasty,there is a great revival of beixue.and the renaissance of clerical script,spreading the brush to show the force in the middle process of the stroke,reversing and riding unsmoothly while writing the stroke,rotating the brush being packed. The techniques of brushwork are more colorful.This article just elaborated the inheritance and the evolution of the techniques of clerical script.
